// ABOUT
Grid & Grain is a design journal for people who think seriously about visual communication. Not tutorials. Not "top 10 fonts of 2026." Considered writing about why design decisions work, what they communicate, and how to make better ones.
The name comes from two things that underlie most good visual work: the grid — the invisible structure that holds a composition together — and the grain — the texture, the material quality, the evidence of process that makes a design feel made rather than generated.
Design is not decoration applied to a finished thing. It is the thing. Every decision about typeface, color, space, and structure is a communication decision — and those decisions either serve the content or they don't. This blog is about making those decisions with intention.
